Within society, we are constantly hearing how GenNext are causing all of the problems, they are being portrayed as misguided, disrespectful, ignorant, rude, arrogant and self centered. Not to forget they are constantly being blamed for causing turmoil in families, fighting and cursing, breaking rules, disrespect, taking drugs and essentially living out of turn.
I challenge these viewpoints; in fact I’m implying that my generation are to blame for so many problems within our society and just maybe GenNext are showing us some answers not problems.
First and foremost, I want to apologise admit that our Generation have screwed up. We grew up believing that getting good grades would insure a good job, along with the perfect lifestyle. We can now safely say, these idealisms haven’t worked, people within society are miserable, frustrated, resentful, stressed out and financially and emotionally insecure. We are time poor. We never have any time for fun and are trading away our lives. Trading time for money. Our time to make someone else money. Our relationships are suffering, our families are crumbling and our children are rebelling.
Yet despite all this evidence, we are continuing to encourage and bully GenNext into following in our footsteps, grow up, get a job, get married, work through the tough times even though it’s not what they want, do the things we want and expect them to live a life based on our expectations. It’s important to remember that these are the children we claim to love unconditionally, yet we continue to justify our actions by implying ‘we only want the best for them’. Therefore, if we are so right, why do so many of our generation has, is, or will take anti depressants like Prozac because of increasingly high levels of inner conflict, anxiety and depression. Can we really blame GenNext for rebelling against wanting our miserable lives?
No, we have actually shown them “how not to’ live their lives……. So as it becomes a bit clearer we can see why GenNext are extremely frustrated and sometimes angry with us, they can’t understand why someone they love and look up to would wish such a destructive life upon them.
So as GenNext face a huge battle to snap free of social conformity, they are also confronted with an unwavering sense of duty to their family and friends. Although they want to follow their purpose in life, they live with the terror of breaking age old traditions and upsetting their loved ones. For GenNext it’s not about living a long life full of achievements wrapped in social stigma, it’s about finding a spiritual passion and leading a purposeful life that will change the lives of everyone around them. Their inner purpose is so gut wrenching and soul defining that it frightens them to think they may never reach it, but sometimes the sense of duty to their family is so great , that they give up on their dreams and opt for a life of daily existence and inner depression, either consciously or unconsciously.
This is why I support GenNext
