"For goodness sake...get out of bed and get to school" yelled the Parent.(Actually it was much worse what was said...I just didn't want to print it)
Its 15minutes before the Teen has to be at school and according to the Teen that's plenty of time and why are you making an issue out of it.
Which begs the question. Why do Parents get so angst about their Teens. They have it all sorted, just not in the same time frames we do. I do have a simple solution to the Parental angst. Its this.
Set agreed time expectations...in advance...with consequences for crossing the line.....and then walk away.
That's it. What wears a Parent down more than anything is the constant nagging and moaning. So don't do it.
Throughout the Teenage lifecycle there is one important rule you must remember. The role of the Parent.
The role of the Parent is to provide your Teen with all of the tools needed to become a resourceful adult who contributes to society in a positive manner. So they can go and live their own goals and dreams themselves. They cant do this if you continue to get in the way of this learning.
So stop nagging and moaning at your Teen, it will only serve to wear yourself down.
Bottom line...Teens need to know expectations (in advance) with boundaries and consequences. And be prepared to act on those boundaries and consequences. You know its going to happen so be prepared.
One final piece of advice...Parents Please Agree. End of story.
